Collection: Kato Tatsuo 加藤龍雄 (1940-)

Kato Tatsuo was born in 1940 in Maebashi city, Gunma prefecture. He become interested in Kokeshi Art at the age of 20. Subsequent he started his apprenticeship under master Sansaku Sekiguchi which lasted 10 years. He commonly uses keyaki (Japanese red zelkova), hiba (belongs to the Japanese hinoki cypress family), mizuki (giant dogwood) and enjyu (the Japanese pagoda tree) wood for his creations. His kokeshi are know for their expressive faces and prominent noses.

Tatsuo has won multiple prizes and awards including the prestigious Prime Minister in 2017.
