This kokeshi by Issetsu Kuribayashi has a beautiful yet strong appearance. As in most of Kuribayashi's dolls the natural wood has a predominant role. The deep carved lines on her head beautifully define the hair. The wood used for this kokeshi is most likely Enju (Japanese pagoda tree).
