This vintage Creative Kokeshi by Katase Kahei (片瀬快平) is a striking example of the artist’s modernist approach to traditional Japanese folk dolls. The piece features a tall, cylindrical body finished in warm red-orange lacquer with layered abstract patterns and subtle textural details, topped by a small wooden head framed by a dramatic black hairstyle. This hairstyle was popular during the 18th century in Japan and was influenced by the Dutch who had a trading post in Japan during that time.
