This kokeshi, titled Little Girl (Dōjo, 童女), by Issetsu Kuribayashi (栗林一雪), is characterised by its sculptural simplicity and the natural beauty of the wood. Her rounded body flows into a slender neck and an oversized head, while the carefully carved, bowl-shaped hairstyle frames a serene face with delicate features. The warm wood grain forms an integral part of the design, adding depth and subtle variation without the need for painted decoration. Through its restrained form and quiet expression, this piece captures the distinctive elegance of creative kokeshi, where the character of the wood and the precision of the carving take centre stage.
