This kokeshi by Aoki Ryoka features a richly textured body with rounded, overlapping forms and subtle gold detailing against deep brown wood. Her warm orange-red collar contrasts with the darker tones of her robe, while the carefully sculpted hair and serene, understated expression give the figure a strong, distinctive presence. The combination of carved texture, restrained colours and intricate surface decoration highlights the artist’s approach to form and material, demonstrating how traditional wooden kokeshi can become expressive works of art. This kokeshi is dated Showa 62 which corresponds to 1987.
