Enma Daiō is a central figure in East Asian mythology, especially in Japan, where he is known as the fearsome King of Hell and the ultimate judge of the dead. His role is to evaluate the souls of people after death, determining their fate based on the deeds they committed during their lifetime. Those judged to have lived virtuously may be reborn into better circumstances, while those who acted wrongly may be sent to various punishment realms.
