This is an intriguing Kokeshi by Hideo Ishihara. His dolls often have a minimalist design and are rare finds. This is a very abstract version. The wood grain in this doll is spectacular and combines very well with the chains around her 'ears'. We love these darker kokeshi by Hideo as they are so distinctly different from mainstream creative kokeshi in the 60s. This only highlights the creative and prominent role Hideo has as an innovator during the Sosaku-Creative Kokeshi Movement.
