This striking pair of creative kokeshi features elongated, geometric bodies topped with rounded heads and delicately drawn facial features. Their warm, natural wood grain is complemented by contrasting bands of colour around the lower body, decorated with stylised cloud motifs in muted blue, gold and red. Although similar in form, each doll has its own character, with subtle differences in hairstyle and expression. The restrained design, sculptural proportions and interplay of natural wood and painted details give the pair a distinctly modern aesthetic while retaining the quiet simplicity of traditional Japanese woodcraft. These apprear to be dated Showa 53 which corresponds to 1978.
