Created by Shozan Shido (志形尚山, 1932–1995) in 1976, this Boy (Warabe) わらべ stands out for its elongated, sculptural form and understated expression. The rounded head features a warm, natural wood grain, three small facial marks and a dark cap of hair, while the slender body reveals the rich tones and textures of the wood. Its minimalist design gives the piece a distinctive presence, reflecting Shido’s creative approach to traditional kokeshi and the expressive possibilities of form, proportion and material.
